WHY WE’RE HERE ...

Our primary goal is to increase african american representation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and to increase the number of african american students pursuing high-tech careers.  Through hands-on demonstrations, engaging workshops, and fun experiments, students will actively learn and explore the STEM fields.

We are seeking to establish partnerships with community stakeholders who are committed to investing in and cultivating talent found within the City of Rochester to create a sustainable economy for city residents.

Through expeditionary learning techniques, we will explore:
  • Lego-building (Communication/Engineering)

  • Oobleck! (Fluids and States of Matter)

  • Pulleys and Levers K'Nex
    (Mechanical Engineering)

  • Bridges K'Nex (Civil Engineering)

  • Computer Networking

  • Egg Drops (Physics)

  • Computer Coding & Gaming

The city of Rochester is home to more than 120 leading businesses focused on optics, photonics, and imaging. TechUpRoc seeks to educate and create an adaptive and integrated photonics workforce capable of meeting industry needs.
